In the latest episode, Ian Shepherd speaks with Megan Lightcap, a partner at Slow Ventures about the firm’s new Creator Fund. The fund invests in creators who are experts in specific niches, with the goal of helping them build businesses on top of their personal brands.

Lightcap said that Slow Ventures is looking for creators who have a large and engaged following, as well as a unique perspective on their niche. The firm is also interested in creators who are ambitious and willing to take risks.

“We want to back creators who are building something much bigger than just their content and kind of media platform,” Lightcap said. “We want to back creators who are building businesses.”

Slow Ventures has already invested in a number of creators, including:

  • Marina Mogilko, a YouTuber with over 1 million subscribers who teaches people how to learn languages quickly.
  • The Libermans, a family of entrepreneurs who create educational content for kids.

Lightcap said that she believes the Creator Fund is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing trend of creator-driven businesses. She said that creators have a unique opportunity to connect with their fans on a personal level, and that this gives them a strong advantage in the marketplace.

“Creators have a direct line to their audience,” Lightcap said. “They can build trust and loyalty with their fans in a way that traditional brands can’t.”

Slow Ventures is not the only venture capital firm that is investing in creators. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the creator economy, as investors have begun to realize the potential of this new market.

As the creator economy continues to grow, it is likely that we will see more venture capital firms investing in creators. Slow Ventures is leading the way in this space, and it will be interesting to see how the firm’s investments pan out in the years to come.
